Children under 6 always travel free of charge on hvv services. For children older than 6, there are reduced-price single/day tickets or school passes. These can already be used if children have not yet started school.
The hvv offers special tickets, for instance the hvv Deutschlandticket, for all school students in regular primary or secondary education at a public school. The type of ticket offered, the price and the rules on its use depend on where you live.
In Lower Saxony, these tickets will be paid for by the district council (Kreis) and the school authorities in the administrative districts of Stade, Harburg and Lüneburg provided that there is a certain minimum distance (stipulated by the district council concerned) between your school and where you live. When you buy a reduced-price school pass, please show a current entitlement form every time you buy a ticket from 10th Grade upwards. You can get this in the school secretariats. After the form has been filled out and validated by the school and with a passport photo you can use it to buy the reduced-price ticket.
